Blairgowrie, Victoria
Blairgowrie is a quiet seaside village on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria, Australia (not Blairgowrie in Scotland). It sits on a narrow strip of land between Sorrento and Rye, with the calm waters of Port Phillip Bay on one side and the wild Bass Strait coast on the other. The village centre faces the bay beach, with a supermarket, cafes and specialty shops.
Staying at Casa al Mare Blairgowrie
Casa al Mare Blairgowrie is a new four-bedroom Blairgowrie beach house that sleeps 8, with a private heated pool and tennis court next door. It’s a 5-minute walk to the bay beach and the village.
Beaches
- Blairgowrie front (bay) beach: a long, sandy Port Phillip Bay beach backed by a foreshore reserve, with shallow sand flats, calm water for swimming, a jetty, boat ramps, picnic and barbecue areas and the Bay Trail for walking and cycling.
- Blairgowrie back beaches: ocean beaches in the Mornington Peninsula National Park on Bass Strait. Koonya Ocean Beach has a lookout over Pelly Point; Bridgewater Bay, Montforts Beach and Fowlers Beach have rock pools at low tide. These beaches are not patrolled, so swim with care and check conditions on Beachsafe.
- Sorrento and Portsea: nearby bay beaches with lifeguards on duty in summer.
The marina
The Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron marina, right on the bay, is one of the busiest boat harbours on the peninsula. Stroll the foreshore to watch the boats come and go, or launch your own from the nearby ramps.
